Cherry Grove Friends Church has been a part of the Battle Ground Community for over 75 years. We are a Christian church that believes in an individual, personal relationship with God through the Holy Spirit. We have a unique, open, and respectful approach to worship that we would love to have you experience with us. Come and see how the Spirit is moving at Cherry Grove.

Our Pastor

Mark Franklin joined Cherry Grove Friends Church as Associate Pastor in May of 2021 and became our Pastor in February 2022.  At various times he has been a retail manager, cleaner of Northwest Portland office buildings, and Twin Rocks Friends Camp Program Director.

Mark spent 10 years as part of the Preaching Team at City’s Edge Community Church, where he worked with teens and convinced a bunch of early 20-somethings to read through the Old Testament a whole book at a time. He also once wrote a blog about the Bible every day for a year.  Mark recently completed a Masters in Biblical and Theological Studies at Western Seminary.  Before that, he collected the attended-but-did-not-graduate awards from Portland State University and George Fox Evangelical Seminary.

Mark has been married to Lauralea since 2018.  Less than a year into their marriage they found themselves also working together as Program Directors at Twin Rocks.  While Lauralea is a foremost tea authority, Mark is partial to coffee, which should be served black and hot, as God intended. Mark and Lauralea enjoy traveling, cooking (and eating), hearing and telling stories, and generally spending time with people. In his spare solo time, Mark has been known to read a book or two and has occasionally played cards.
